Treasurer

Inglewood Arts Hub inc. (IAH) is a not-for-profit volunteer/artist-run community arts organisation, which manages an art gallery; an artist-in-residence program; a studio in which groups and workshops are held, usually for a fee; and hosts artists talks; visits to artist studios and galleries; and other events, some of which are provided for a fee. The IAH has a strong, but not exclusive, link with Inglewood and surrounding suburbs. Volunteer Management Committee Treasurer The Treasurer works closely with the Management Committee, Chair, and Secretary, with a particular focus on: • Reporting financials to the committee • Bank reconciliations • Invoicing exhibiting artists and workshop facilitators • Paying exhibiting artists for their sales, minus commission • Supplier payments This is a voluntary, elected position to the IAH Volunteer Management Committee. The role is an interesting opportunity for a person who may want to develop their professional experience, or who is interested in working with a community arts organisation, or who has retired and wants to continue using their skills and experience gained through working in a financial environment. Responsibilities The Treasurer is responsible for satisfying all legal requirements for the management and true and accurate reporting of IAH finances. Duties: • Ensure the functions of Treasurer, as described in the constitution, are satisfied • Attend the monthly meetings of the Committee • Provide a written report at each Committee meeting to assist the Committee in their management of IAH’s finances • Administer all IAH’s financial affairs • Receipt all incoming monies as required • Bank all monies received • Pay all accounts • Support the annual auditing process as described in the constitution • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date profit and loss statement, balance sheet and cash flow projection • Liaise with the Chair and Secretary to ensure sales revenues are appropriately administered • Prepare draft financial statement for audit • Liaise with the honorary auditor to prepare and present the annual accounts at the Annual General Meeting of members in October of each year • Assist with the collation of reports to regulatory bodies such as the Australian Taxation Office Prior experience: Essential: • Previous experience with financial control and reporting Valuable: • Previous experience in a treasury role in a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organisation Skills / characteristics: Essential: • Honesty and trustworthiness • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy • Ability to allocate regular time periods to maintain the books, make payments and issue invoices / receipts, and prepare reports • Well-developed decision-making skills • Good communication skills (written and oral) Valuable: • Confidence in using accountancy software • Understanding of Australian accountancy standards Type of work: Accounting & Finance Suitable for: Skilled Volunteers Commitment: Regular - more than 6 months Training: The current Treasurer is happy to work with the incoming Treasurer to support them to become familiar with the IAH and its needs. Time required: The successful applicant would be required to attend a monthly Committee meeting. These meetings occur on Monday evenings and generally take 2 hours. The work between Committee meetings is likely to take about 10 hours per week. Reimbursement IAH reimburses committee members and volunteers for expenses they incur with money outlaid, when approved (and recorded in the minutes) at a committee meeting.
