What is Student to Student?  Student2student aims to improve the reading skills of younger (in years 3-8) students by pairing them with an older Buddy who peer reads with them. It is a flagship program of The Smith Family and has been implemented for more than 15 years. The program is 18 weeks and the pairs read 2-3 times per week, using one of three models; Digital, Mobile, and Telephone. 

Program Support (s2s) Volunteers participate in various activities including; handling customer service phone and email queries, assisting with monitoring and support during program implementation, as well as various administrative duties including data entry. 

Do you have the following qualities? 

• Excellent interpersonal skills including a strong ability to communicate well with young people 
• A friendly and positive attitude 
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a team 

Are you able to perform these tasks (with support and training)? 

• Assisting with general program queries 
• Providing support to participants needing help with basic troubleshooting using training and support guides 
• Assisting with general monitoring and support during program implementation 
• General administrative duties including data entry and excel spreadsheet management 
• Providing regular updates to Program Specialist and other relevant stakeholders 

Can you commit to this timeframe?  Generally, we seek a volunteer commitment of  4 hours a day (once or twice per week) for a minimum of two school terms (around 18 weeks).

Buddies and students read to each other in their own time after school hours.
