Treasurer - Sutherland Shire Refugee Connection
We are a small volunteer-run organisation based in the Sutherland Shire, supporting people from refugee backgrounds to settle in the area. We provide social and financial support to meet gaps in government-funded services.
We are looking for a treasurer to join our team. If you have bookkeeping or accounting experience that would be ideal, but it's not essential. As long as you're keen to learn and have good organisation and record keeping skills, please reach out.
Our organisation's budget is small and so is the time commitment we're expecting - around 5 to 8 hours per month. Tasks may include:
- Making payments (up to 5 per month)
- Record keeping
- Preparing basic monthly financial reports
- Attending monthly committee meetings (1 hour on Thursday evenings)
- Preparing financial statement for Annual Report
In this treasurer role, you will be helping to make a direct impact on the lives of people from refugee backgrounds, such as by providing rental subsidies and cost of living relief.
If you are interested, you can also support with providing direct social support to our participants - such as practicing English, having family playdates.
You'll be joining a warm, welcoming group of locals who are all passionate about helping people in the community. Because we're a small organisation, our structure and roles are flexible and there are always opportunities to be innovative and stretch your skills. Help us grow!
To express your interest in the role, tell us a little about yourself and why you're interested, as well as the skills you bring. We will then contact you for an informal interview, followed by some background checks. Once completed, we will organise an induction and training.
Our preference is for a Sydney-based volunteer, as sometimes we have face-to-face activities (a few times per year).
