Data Visualisation Volunteer
Engineers Without Borders Australia (national)EWB Australia is seeking a volunteer with great initiative to support its Engineering Program’s data visualisation system. Since May 2024, the Engineering Program has been using KoBoToolbox and PowerBI to report and monitor the number of participants benefitting from its Engineering projects in Australia, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, and Vanuatu.
The volunteer will work alongside the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Specialist and MEL Data Support Volunteer to implement needed structural and cosmetic changes to enhance the user interface and user experience of these PowerBI reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Review existing PowerBI scripts and make changes as needed
- Review existing PowerBI report interfaces and make cosmetic changes as needed
- Review KoboToolbox XLScode and structural elements and make changes as needed (subject to experience)
- Support technical documentation and guidelines
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Training or professional experience in data science, data visualisation, or related discipline. Students demonstrating a strong background of relevant experience will also be considered.
- Proficiency and confidence with developing PowerBI reports, including manipulating SQL, DAX, and PowerQuery scripts
- Experience working with clients or stakeholders to develop engaging data visualisation charts with appropriate user interface and user experience requirements
- Ability to communicate in clear, accessible language both written and verbal
- Ability to manage and prioritise work independently in accordance with timelines
- Organised with a strong attention to detail
- Committed and enthusiastic team player, with the ability to collaborate with other EWB teams across the organisation
Desirable
- Experience using KoBo Toolbox or similar platforms (e.g. pyxform, formhub/onadata, OpenDataKit, XLSForms)
- Understanding of project management, MEL, or research principles, such as data management and reporting requirements
- Experience in the not-for-profit, international development and/or engineering sector
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn
