Role overview
As a Kora Board Member, you will provide governance, oversight and strategic leadership to support the continued growth and success of Kora Childcare. You could be a good fit if you could provide expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Provide Strategic Direction:
Work with fellow Board members to define Kora’s strategic priorities, aligning the organisation’s vision and mission with community needs. You will collaborate on setting both short- and long-term goals that drive impact and growth, ensuring that our services remain accessible and inclusive for disadvantaged families.
Example of Activities: Participate in strategic planning retreats, review program evaluations, and contribute ideas for service expansion or enhancement.
- Advise on Policy and Governance:
As part of the governance role, you will contribute to the review of organisational policies to ensure Kora policies align with best practices, legal standards and community expectations. Support a strong governance framework that ensures the organisation’s ongoing compliance.
Example of Activities: Provide feedback on policy review sessions, contribute to discussions about risk management, and ensure alignment with sector standards.
- Financial Oversight and sustainability:
You will contribute to strategic insights into financial performance, approve annual budgets, and opportunities for funding or cost-efficiency ensuring that Kora Childcare is financially sustainable.
Example of Activities: Review financial reports, support fundraising strategies, and participate in providing feedback on resource allocation.
- Advocacy and Community Engagement:
As a Board member, you’ll be a passionate advocate for Kora Childcare in the community, helping build relationships with key stakeholders, funders, and the wider community to advance your mission. Your role includes raising awareness of Kora’s impact and helping identify opportunities for partnerships and funding.
Example of Activities: Attend community events, network with potential funders, or meet with local government representatives to promote Kora's initiatives.
- Supporting Kora Executive and Staff:
Work closely with Kora’s Executive team to provide mentorship feedback and guidance. You’ll support them in navigating challenges, leading with integrity, and staying true to Kora’s mission.
Example of Activities: Participate in performance reviews, offer advice on operational challenges, and provide input on major organisational decisions.
- Contribute to Board Development:
Participate in the recruitment and mentoring new Board members to ensure the Board remains diverse, skilled and reflective of the community we serve.
Example of Activities: Assist in identifying and mentoring new Board members, and participate in Board training and development activities.

Experience in early childhood education, social work, or child advocacy.
