Management Committee members
Independant Regional Advocacy Service IncorporatedIRASI is seeking new Management Committee members with community board experience and an interest in housing, disabilities and mental health would be beneficial.
IRASI provides person-centred advice, assistance, and advocacy to the most vulnerable and marginalised in our community to support them to make informed decisions about their lives and to participate and contribute within their communities.
Candidates should have a passion for ensuring human rights, and an enthusiasm to work as part of a skilled and committed group of people on the IRASI Management Committee.
Commitment
Members are expected to attend monthly or bi monthly meetings, and to have prepared in advance by reading materials provided. Anticipate approx. 3 hours per month in addition to any preparation or tasks to be undertaken outside of meeting times (eg taking or sending minutes, acting on the organisations behalf, approving flying minutes outside of meetings as required).
Duties
- Understand and demonstrate a commitment to the organisation’s mission and programs
- Keep up to date with issues and trends that affect the organisation
- Prepare for meetings by reading agendas, minutes, reports and other documentation required to actively participate
- Contribute skills and knowledge by participating actively in meetings and committee work
- With all directors, monitor the organisation’s financial progress and monitor risk.
- Approve the annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions
- Comply with all legal and fiduciary responsibilities of directors
- Partner with the Services Manager and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
- Work co-operatively with the Chair/President, Services Manager and other board members to set and review the organization’s strategic direction
- Avoid any potential conflicts of interest
- Understand and maintain confidentiality
- Oversee and ensure the organisation ‘s compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
Experience Required The people we are seeking have significant governance experience in the not for profit sector, and (preferably) significant expertise and professional experience in funding and grants, capital management, and community relations.
Key Selection Criteria
- Commitment to and understanding of the IRASI mission
- Board experience preferably in a not for profit or community organization and
- Understanding of not for profit governance and the duties and functions of a board
- Qualifications and experience in funding and grants, community relations, and capital management
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and mentor
- Stakeholder engagement skills particularly with business and philanthropic communities
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire others
- A genuine commitment to social justice and human rights
- Knowledge of government operations (desirable)
