Palliative Care Biography Volunteer

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District

As a Volunteer Biographer the commitment is to visit a patient at home once a week for 6-8 weeks and to complete 2-4 biographies a year.
Volunteers need to be good listeners, interested in peoples stories, emotionally mature and comfortable to sit with a person who may be very unwell. They need to be competent on the computer, able to commit to 2-4 hours a week including a visit, transcribing and editing. 1 day training is provided free, digital recorders are provided and support for editing, and inserting photos. The Coordinator prints and binds the book. The volunteer has the satisfaction of visiting the client to give them the book they have created together. They need to complete Health documentation including a Working with Children Check, 100 points of ID and a National criminal record check as well as having current vaccinations (these are paid for by the organisation).
