We’re seeking dedicated pet therapy volunteers to join our Coffee & Chat Program, where you can share the healing power of pets with elderly residents in aged care homes.
What You’ll Do:
- Bring your well-behaved pet to visit residents
- Engage residents in gentle interactions with your pet, such as petting and cuddling
- Participate in activities that incorporate your pet, like simple tricks or exercises
- Build positive connections and enhance the well-being of residents through pet therapy
Why Volunteer? Pet therapy has proven benefits for enhancing emotional and mental well-being. By volunteering with your therapy pet, you’ll provide comfort, companionship, and joy to elderly residents, creating uplifting experiences and fostering a warm, supportive environment.
Program Details:
- Dedication: We're looking for people to create new friendships with our residents and as such, would hope you'd want to visit that friend approximately 10 times over a six-month period. You are also welcome to provide pet therapy on a more casual basis if you'd prefer.
- Requirements: You will be over 18 and willing to pass a National Criminal History Check (provided and paid for) and be consistently available. Your pet will go through an approval process prior to commencing.
