Simulated Patient Volunteer - Randwick - #217425
UNSW MedicineUNSW Medicine & Health has a well-established volunteer Simulated Patient (SP) program at the Kensington/Randwick campus. Members of the community come on site for teaching sessions Mon-Fri a few times a year, between March and October. They help junior students practice their communications skills and/or some physical examinations. It is important for students to practise on strangers and learn how to develop rapport, strong listening skills, empathy and recognise the diverse community a doctor will come across.
Scenarios are provided for history-taking to align with the various body systems the students are learning about. Advice to volunteers on how to play the patient and give good feedback to students is provided.
Many of our SPs have been with us for years as it is a great option for those working part-time, from home or are (newly) retired, with some life experience to offer. Our SPs are well respected and appreciated by students as they are a crucial element to clinical skills teaching in the early years of the UNSW Medicine program. If you are looking for a fun, engaging and fulfilling opportunity without a heavy time commitment, this could be it.
The last 2024 sessions in October offer sessions at 12pm or 2.30pm, 2 hours each. Select one of 20 sessions.
