Join the GRAI Board: Make a Real Difference in LGBTI Ageing
By joining our forward-thinking and unique LGBTI organisation, you’ll be at the forefront of change — whether it's participating in board meetings, consulting with State or Commonwealth officials, or representing us at Regional Pride events across WA. Your contributions will directly influence the well-being of those we serve, while providing you with new connections and rewarding challenges.
About Us
GRAI – Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Rights in Ageing Inc – was founded in Perth in 2005 to champion the rights and well-being of older LGBTI people.
For nearly 20 years, we've amplified the voices, expertise, and lived experiences of older LGBTI individuals, ensuring that organisations and service providers across Australia recognise and respect their unique needs.
We are the only community-controlled, peer-led, culturally safe, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring that older LGBTI people feel safe and welcomed, wherever they are.
Board Responsibilities
At GRAI, we are committed to building a strong and diverse Board where each member contributes their unique strengths. We are looking for individuals with expertise in areas such as community housing, marketing, and aged care service design and delivery, with an emphasis on regional representation.
Passion for supporting the LGBTI community is our priority, regardless of specific expertise. We particularly welcome applications from First Nations people, BIPOC, and Trans masc individuals, as we recognise the richness that diversity brings to our organisation.
Time Commitment (Approximate)
- Attend 10 Board meetings annually (February to November), either online or in person (90 minutes per meeting).
- Participate in at least one subcommittee.
- Attend the AGM in December (1 hour).
- Attend the annual Strategic Planning Offsite (typically a 5-hour session on a Saturday).
Required Skills
A lived experience of being LGBTQIA+ is essential.
We encourage individuals of all ages to apply. Ideal candidates will have an understanding of regulatory and governance processes, including fiduciary and director responsibilities, within the not-for-profit sector. While previous experience as a director is beneficial, it is not required.
All GRAI Board Members must confirm they are not disqualified under the ACNC Governance Standard 4.
