Environmental Volunteer - CORPORATE Group Working Bees - Tempe and Marrickville - #216331

Inner West Council

Inner West Council's Urban Ecology Team is ready to host your next corporate volunteering event! With 21 hectares of Natural Areas under its care, these spaces provide vital food and shelter for birds and bats displaced by rural habitat loss and serve as habitats for threatened species. By participating in a day of Bushcare volunteering, you’ll help restore these areas, boost biodiversity, create habitats for wildlife, protect local native flora and fauna, and improve ecosystem health within the Inner West LGA. It’s also a fantastic team bonding experience and a lot of fun!

No experience is required—just an appreciation for the natural environment, a willingness to learn under the direction of council staff, and a minimum level of physical fitness to undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Weed removal and management

  • Planting indigenous local provenance species

  • Watering seedlings

  • Mulching

  • Installation of protective fencing

  • Composting of weeds onsite or as directed by the Bushcare supervisor

We recommend a 3 or 4-hour session instead of a full day, as participants may not be accustomed to the physical nature of the work. The tasks typically involve a mix of hand weeding and planting native seedlings. An expert supervisor will be present to induct and guide the team, providing information on the area's ecology for those interested.

Example 4-Hour Schedule:

09:00 – Onsite welcome + WHS induction & sign-on

09:15 – Undertake environmental work

11:00 – Break for morning tea

11:30 – Undertake environmental work

12:45 – Pack up tools and equipment

13:00 – Finish – the environment thanks you!
