Bushcare Volunteer - Saturday Mornings - Tempe - #216330

Inner West Council

Inner West Council's Urban Ecology Team is looking for volunteers to join a new Bushcare group for regular monthly working bees on Saturday mornings 9am-12pm. Open to all levels of experience!

All you need is an appreciation for the natural environment, a willingness to learn under the direction of council staff, and a minimum level of physical fitness to undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

This position is on Saturday mornings between 9am and 12 noon.

  • Weed removal and management

  • Planting indigenous local provenance species provided by Council staff

  • Watering seedlings during the establishment period

  • Mulching

  • Installation of protective fencing

  • Composting of weeds onsite or as directed by the Bushcare supervisor

  • Site assessment, planning, and monitoring

Clothing and Equipment:

Volunteers must:

  • Wear sturdy, enclosed shoes or boots

  • Wear sun-smart clothing and sun protection (e.g., hat and sunglasses)

  • Wear other clothing appropriate for the season

  • Bring a drink bottle

Council will provide:

  • Training required to work safely and effectively

  • Tools and equipment

  • Gloves

  • Other Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment as necessary according to Council’s Safe Work Method Statements

  • Personal Accident Insurance (for volunteers aged 16 to 90 years old inclusive)
