About us

WAGEC is a child safe organisation and committed to the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children that we engage with in our services and community. We have a whole organisation approach to upholding children's rights and striving to prevent all forms of harm, abuse, and neglect for children and young people.

There will be WAGEC staff on-site at all times to supervise and assist as needed.

Location and Time:

  • Burwood NSW 2134
  • 2 hours per week (3.30pm – 5.30pm) on Wednesdays during the NSW school term

About the role

WAGEC is seeking Learning Support Volunteers to support our experienced team of staff to deliver essential services to children who have experienced domestic and family violence. Volunteers will help to provide individualised tutoring and homework help for primary students (mostly children aged 5 – 12 years), and support group activities designed to encourage engagement with lifelong learning. Younger siblings may also attend and early learning activities are provided.

Requirements:

  • Early Childhood or Education qualifications
  • Ability to engage with children aged 6 – 12 years
  • Knowledge of children’s development and learning styles
  • Ability to present information in a way that supports learning.
  • Flexible, strength-based and trauma informed approach
  • Sensitivity to the experiences of women and children affected by homelessness and domestic and family violence
  • Able to work in a team and collaborate with staff and volunteers.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Willingness to obtain a WWCC and Police Check
