NSWFA has two vacancies of elected directors on the board to be filled as casual vacancies for a term until the 2025 AGM (Feb/Mar). These are volunteer positions.

Skills Specific skills and experience the board has identified as needed are:

  • stakeholder engagement
  • relationship building
  • social media management
  • fundraising
  • legal
  • change management

Relevant governance experience is essential.

Knowledge of, or experience with, fencing is not essential, and to strengthen the capacity of the board, applicants with diverse experience are encouraged to apply.

Board director role As a volunteer board member of the NSW Fencing Association Inc (NSWFA), you will help guide the strategic direction and governance of the organisation. Responsibilities include attending board meetings, participating in decision-making processes, overseeing financial management, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. You will promote best practices and industry norms in fencing governance, advocate for inclusivity and diversity within the sport, and support initiatives that enhance accessibility for all participants. Additionally, you will contribute to transparent reporting and accountability mechanisms to stakeholders and support all levels of fencing, from grassroots development to high-performance athletes. Strong leadership, governance experience, communication and collaborative skills, and commitment to fostering a thriving fencing community are essential.

NSWFA is undergoing a significant period of organisational transformation and all board roles involve operational activities as well as governance responsibilities. The time commitment is significant at this time, with discussions and decisions taking place at least weekly. Board members must undertake child safeguarding training, and will also be undertaking two governance training courses as well as participating in a strategy day later in the year encompassing review and planning for all aspects of the Association’s operations and activities. We anticipate that over the next few months, as the changes progress and the implementation of new systems and processes is complete, that the time commitment will ease.

This is an opportunity to contribute your skills, expertise and energy to helping shape the new direction of fencing in NSW, from grassroots to elite pathways.
