Assistant Group Leader
While our youth section Leaders are responsible for helping to devise and delivery programs that support young people in reaching their potential, the Group Leader and Assistant Group Leader are responsible for leading, managing, supporting and encouraging all the adults in the Group.
No prior Scouting experience is necessary to become a Group Leader. In fact, all Program Support Leaders undergo training on all aspects of adult leadership, group management, safety and other requirements to ensure they have the knowledge, skills and confidence to support our adult members and work with other volunteers.
The duties of the Group Leader are to:
- Ensure the Group is staffed by trained, competent, committed adult Leaders
- Ensure that the Scouting youth program is delivered in accordance with performance and safety standards and with a focus on the welfare of youth members
- Partake in recruitment and community events to raise the profile of Scouting and increase membership
- Work with the Support Committee to ensure the Group operates on a safe, stable and financial basis
- Undertake free personal developmental training offered through Scouts NSW
- Communicate effectively within the Group and up the Scouts NSW organisational hierarchy
- Complete 2 hours compulsory online training within 3 months of starting
Child safety in Scouts
Child safety is our number one priority at Scouts NSW. Therefore, along with training in child safety, all Leaders are thoroughly screened, undergo a Police Check and must hold a valid, verified Working With Children Check to ensure the safety of our youth members. WWCCs are free and available from Service NSW.
