Inner West Neighbour Aid is a not for profit community organisation, established for over 30 years that provides social outings, workshops, exercise classes, intergenerational connections, centre based groups and programs around the home for seniors living in the inner west. Neighbour Aid also maintains the 5 Senses Garden in Rhodes Park, Concord West in partnership with the City of Canada Bay Council. The organisation is primarily funded under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme and other grants.
Home Visiting is a reciprocal relationship built around kindness, companionship and growing connections.
People volunteer for many reasons: Are you looking for a better work-life balance if you have a demanding job or full time studies, you might be a stay at home parent with some spare time and want to give yourself another purpose without returning to the workforce or maybe you are moving out of the workforce and into retirement and would like to continue using your skills and remain connected to the community.
Commitment: A one hour visit, once a fortnight or once a month. This can be in person or over the phone. Visits are arranged Monday to Friday, generally between 8.30am to 4.30pm.
Requirements of the Role:
- Chat and actively listen
- Share stories and common interests with an open mind and professional boundaries
- An interest in the aged or community care sector
- Ability to adhere to safety instructions and ask questions if you are unsure
- Learn from a professional team, who will provide support and mentoring in the role
- All volunteers are subject to a police check and willingness to obtain COVID-19 vaccinations
