Role purpose

This role reports to the Youth and Community Engagement Practitioner. This role works in collaboration with staff and volunteers to operationalise Food Circle – our community-driven relief program.

About the role

Glebe Youth Service's 'Food Circle' program is a community driven food relief initiative that aims to get more quality fresh produce into local homes. With donations from various partner organisations, we provide a bag full of fresh fruit, vegetables and other staples to a number of households in need in the Glebe community every week.

We need a volunteer to collect food donations from Living Hope Community Church, Camperdown. This role is the most important role for our food program as Living Hope Community Church is one of our major suppliers.

Volunteers are needed once to twice a month on Tuesdays from 12:30 pm to – 2:30 pm.

This role would involve a volunteer driving an automatic GoGet van to pick up supplies on Tuesday afternoons.

The key task of the volunteer is to drive a hired van to collect produce from Camperdown before dropping produce off to the Glebe Youth Service and then returning the van to its spot. The role involves lifting small crates and supplies. The hire van is paid for by us and will be booked for you at a location close to Glebe Youth Service (84 Glebe Point Road, Glebe). You will be required to register under the GYS GoGet account.

On your first shift, you will be accompanied by a Glebe Youth Service staff member as part of your induction.

Volunteers can choose the frequency of volunteering from once a fortnight to once a month.

Role requirements

Volunteers will be required to:

  • Have a full driver’s licence.

  • Be confident in driving a van;

  • Have the capability to lift heavy objects safely on your own.

  • Willingness to provide basic information such as your drivers licence number and contact details, so we can sign you up to Glebe Youth Service’s GoGet account.
