Volunteer Optometrist

Key Responsibilities
- Eye Examinations: Conduct comprehensive eye exams using portable optometric equipment. Diagnose vision abnormalities and eye diseases. Prescribe corrective lenses or other visual aids.
- Patient Care: Provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients. Educate patients on eye health, care, and the proper use of corrective lenses. Ensure that each patient understands their eye health and the treatments available.
- Clinical Documentation: Accurately document all patient interactions, diagnoses, and treatment plans in the patient’s medical record. Ensure confidentiality and security of patient health information.
- Follow-up Care Coordination: Coordinate with local health services for patients requiring treatment beyond what the mobile clinic can provide. Arrange referrals to ophthalmologists or other healthcare providers as needed.
- Clinic Operations Support: Assist in setting up and breaking down clinic equipment. Ensure the clinic environment is safe and conducive to providing patient care.
- Professional Development and Collaboration: Stay updated with the latest advancements in optometry and participate in continuing education. Collaborate with a team of health professionals, including other optometrists, ophthalmologists, and clinic staff, to discuss care and service improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
Degree in Optometry and a valid practicing license. Proven experience in clinical practice, with strong diagnostic skills. Ability to use and maintain modern optometric equipment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient-centered service. Adaptable and able to work efficiently in a mobile clinic setting. Commitment to community service and passion for helping the underserved.
