The Vision Australia Radio Network provide news, information, specialist programs and podcasts for the blind, low vision and other communities with print disabilities across Victoria, Southern New South Wales, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin.

We are seeking volunteers within the Darwin area with broadcasting experience to produce radio programs and content with a focus on local matters of interest for the blind, low vision and print disabled community. This content could be a reading program covering Darwin and NT specific content from established published sources or a specialist program looking at a topic or theme specifically related to Darwin and NT e.g. local sports, arts, history, etc.

Volunteers will be required to record remotely and will need a laptop and an internet connection to fulfil this role. You will work with VAR staff to ensure you deliver content to agreed deadlines and to the specifications required. Training, technical support and mentoring will be provided.

Volunteers are expected to: • research, read, record and produce audio content remotely as agreed with VAR Management/staff for on air and online (in accordance with VAR policies, procedures, briefs, scripts and RPH protocols) • where required, work on your own and effectively with other volunteers to ensure program production is in accordance with VAR policies and procedures

Availability & Commitment:

  • A minimum commitment of 6 months is required
  • Weekly program contribution
  • Approx. 3 hours per week

Skills and Attributes Volunteers should demonstrate: • demonstrated knowledge in producing and presenting audio content for broadcast and/or podcasting • good computer literacy and basic technical skills • strong attention to detail • ability to work to deadlines • excellent time management skills • good English comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and writing skills • a willingness to participate in a reading audition • the ability and willingness to source and read content in accordance with VAR policies, procedures, scripts and briefs and RPH protocols • skills in recording and using editing software • strong listening skills • an interest in local media, news and current affairs • the capacity to work with minimal supervision

Training Online Induction & Radio Specific Training

Other Requirements Successful applicants will be required to undergo the following compliance requirements: • police check • attend a reading audition via zoom or audio sample equivalent

This is voluntary role, fulfilled remotely and requires use of your own laptop and internet connection. Recording software and equipment will be provided.
