Women & Girls Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families impacted by homelessness, domestic violence and systemic disadvantage. We do this by providing crisis accommodation, material aid, case management and targeted support programs. Equally, we advocate for social change in the community through primary prevention activities that seek to address the underlying causes of gender-based violence.

WAGEC is seeking CYP Learning Support Volunteers to support our experienced team of staff to deliver essential services to children living in crisis accommodation.

Required skills & qualifications:

  • Early Childhood or education qualifications.
  • Ability to engage with children aged 6 – 12 years.
  • Knowledge of children’s development and learning styles
  • Ability to present information in a way that supports learning.
  • Flexible, strength-based and trauma informed approach.
  • Sensitivity to the experiences of women and children affected by homelessness and domestic and family violence.
  • Able to work in a team and collaborate with staff and volunteers.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).

Volunteer responsibilities will include:

  • Provide individualised tutoring and homework help for primary students (children aged 6 – 12 years).
  • Support group activities designed to encourage engagement with lifelong learning.
  • Maintain professional relationships with WAGEC’s clients, staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Work in a manner consistent with WAGEC’s vision, values and strategy.
  • Work in a manner according to all policies, procedures , WHS and COVID safe practices.

There will be WAGEC staff on-site to supervise and assist as needed.

We have a whole organisation approach to upholding children's rights and striving to prevent all forms of harm, abuse, and neglect for children and young people.

Please note: all applicants must complete a screening interview via phone (10-15 minutes) with WAGEC’s Volunteer Program Coordinator. Please note that submission of an EOI to volunteer at WAGEC does not necessarily guarantee a successful application.
