We are seeking a Secretary to join our team!

The Secretary is an integral part of our Executive Team and undertakes duties including:

  • Attend executive board and sub-management committee meetings (physically or virtually, where required) and accurately record minutes from meetings.
  • Prepare meeting agendas - receiving agenda items from committee members, circulating agendas and approved minutes and checking that agreed actions are carried out by members.
  • Assist the organisation with meeting periodic reporting requirements with Fair Trading, ACNC.
  • Preparing an Annual Report of the organisation’s activities for the year, for the Annual General Meeting.
  • Attending and preparing for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) including ensuring elections and notices are in line with the organisation’s Constitution, processes and procedures.
  • Arranging, review and advising on the renewal of the organisation’s insurance policies.
  • Recording (and advising, where necessary) declarations and conflicts of interest of Executive Board Members.
  • Advise the Executive Board and Sub-Management Committee on governance matters; and
  • Carry out other administrative functions, as required by the Boards.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional looking to give their time to a worthy community organisation. This is also an excellent role for someone studying Law looking for some real-world experience in a NFP organisation. You must also have three doses of the COVID vaccine and be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check.

About Us: Australian Refugee Volunteers (ARV) is an entirely volunteer-run non-religious and apolitical organisation that runs exciting programs for children from asylum seeker and refugee backgrounds in Sydney. We run monthly excursions that are a mix of fun and developmental activities that give our clients skills and confidence whilst allowing them to just be kids for the day!
