Join the Know Me Dementia Digital Story Project as a Community Volunteer Are you enthusiastic about making a positive impact on the lives of others? The Know Me Dementia Digital Story Project invites you to be a part of a unique opportunity to connect with older adults and create lasting memories. Sapphire Coast Community Aged Care has partnered with researchers from the Australian National University to implement the Know Me Dementia Digital Story project at Imlay House in Pambula and Hillgrove House in Bega. The project which aims to enhance the quality of life for residents with dementia through reminiscence and storytelling, is calling for interested community members to apply to participate as a volunteer in the project. The volunteer time commitment for the project is over 16 weeks from 1st July until 19th October 2024. There is comprehensive training and support provided through weekly 1.5 hour zoom training sessions. These sessions will cover aged care, dementia awareness, communication, reminiscence and digital story skills. Over the course of the training, volunteers will visit a resident one on one in their care home, utilising the skills learnt to share and listen to the resident’s life stories through reminiscence. Some volunteers will also craft a digital story to capture the unique spirit of the resident. Benefits for volunteers include: Experiencing the joy of making a real difference in someone's life.
