A Volunteer Treasurer with Heart, Skill and Compassion

The Grief Centre of WA Inc

The Grief Centre of WA is the key resource and support Centre for grief and loss in Western Australia. A grassroots peer-led organisation, our vision is for a society where Grief and Death are honoured and responded to with deep care, respect and emotional intelligence. A community where people can process their grief and experience healing.

Our work is in supporting people who grieve and in changing the way people view and respond to grief. Every day we make a real difference in people's lives and this work is highly rewarding!

Our Treasurer is a key and vital role within our organisation, as addressing sustainability is a critical priority of our current work. We are experiencing a rapid period of growth, so are looking for an entrepreneurial spirited Treasurer who can work with us through the ambiguity and transition period, rolling up their sleeves and helping us with formalising our business systems. We are headed into unchartered waters as an organisation, but have very dedicated and highly skilled team members who are experienced and willing to work hard alongside you.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • To be a numbers person, with skills, knowledge and experience in managing finances and qualifications to support your knowledge and skills.

  • Understanding of the Not-for-Profit Sector, including a good understanding of the responsibilities for reporting to the ACNC.

  • A lived experience of bereavement is a genuine requirement of this role, as all of our staff have this lived experience as a minimum standard.

  • A willingness to work with volunteers to achieve the vision and mission of the organisation, including a willingness to 'get your hands dirty' whilst supporting our events.

  • A sound understanding of sustainability practices and a willingness to guide our team to ensure the longevity of the Centre.

  • Ethical accounting practices and transparency in relation to financial management practices.

  • Willing to meet monthly for committee meetings and chair a sustainability management committee sub-committee meeting, that meets as required.

  • Willingness to complete online payment approvals to enable payment of wages and accounts fortnightly in a timely fashion to ensure staff and suppliers are paid on time.

  • A sense of humour and willingness to look outside the box to find solutions.

  • Company Secretary experience and qualifications would be highly valued.

  • A National Police Clearance.

You will be supported by a competent Executive Leadership Team and passionate committee, as well as, PKF, our accounting partners.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Hayley Solich on 0402 040 008.
