About volunteering with us

We provide pop-up hairdressing/barber services at some of WA’s leading community service organisations, such as, St Barts, 55 Central, Vinnies WA – Passages Engagement Hub and Uniting WA – Tranby Engagement Hub. These organisations provide homelessness services, such as drop-in service hubs or transitional housing to people experiencing homelessness in our community.

We are about to launch our first regional services in April 2024 at RUAH in Geraldton and we are seeking volunteers to help us positively impact people in the community.

What does the role do?

A Service Facilitator at one of our hairdressing/barber services is the first point of contact and plays an important role in creating social connection. You will make a list of anyone seeking a haircut and notify them when it’s their turn for a haircut, with a smile and happy banter along the way. You keep our hairdressers coordinated, keep track of the number of haircuts we have done and may help with set up before a service or tidy up after a service.

What do we need from you?

• Have good communication and organisational skills 
• Have an outgoing and friendly personality 
• Be available for two hours on a Monday or Tuesday, at least once a month
• Be available once-a-week on a Monday evening for WA Operations Team Meeting

What support do you get?

The Short Back and Sidewalks team will deliver an induction so you can learn more about what we do and how we do it. On your first service, you will be allocated a buddy who is an experienced volunteer to orient you at your first service location and to help you on your volunteering journey. Our WA Operations Coordinators are regularly in contact with you, to answer any questions you have and to work with your availability.
