The Impact You’ll Make

Short Back & Sidewalks (SBSW) provides haircuts free of charge and free of judgement to people experiencing homelessness and financial hardship. Our services go beyond practical support. We create moments of dignity, connection, and belonging.

As a Service Coordinator, you are the welcoming face of each service. You help create the atmosphere. You are often the first point of contact, setting the tone with warmth, respect, and positive energy. Your role ensures every service runs smoothly and that every person feels seen.

In this role, you will:

  • Welcome community members and manage the haircut list
  • Assist with simple set up and pack down
  • Let clients know when it is their turn, with kindness and friendly conversation
  • Support coordination between volunteers on the day
  • Keep track of service numbers and basic reporting

Your presence helps create calm, organised, and welcoming spaces where meaningful connection can happen.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Outgoing, approachable, and community minded
  • Reliable and able to commit around 2 hours per month
  • Available to attend a monthly online Operations Team meeting

Previous experience is not essential. What matters most is your compassion, reliability, and willingness to contribute to a supportive team environment.

What Support You’ll Receive

You will receive a full induction so you understand our approach and values. At your first service, you will be paired with an experienced volunteer buddy to guide you. Our Operations Coordinators stay connected with you, providing ongoing support and working with your availability.

If you are motivated to make a difference and want to be part of something meaningful, apply now and help create welcoming spaces where confidence and connection can grow.
