BigCcat Volunteer - Collections project Volunteer

The National Trust of Australia (Victoria) are seeking a Volunteers to assist in or BigCcat Project within our Collections Team. The Big Ccat Project is an online community cataloguing program designed to harness community expertise and skillsets, contribute to a sense of belonging and well-being in volunteers, and to enable community access to collections via cataloguing and publishing online. Now is your chance to join our passionate team of volunteers.

Location: Tasma Terrace, 6 Parliament place or Remote
Start Date : Flexible
Hours required per week : Flexible but with minimum requirement of 1 day per fortnight.

Volunteer activities could include: The Big Ccat Project offers flexibility in location, tasks and commitment. Creating catalogue entries and enrich existing catalogue entries in line with international cataloguing standards.
Conducting research and analysis of artworks and objects, creating content for collections management and public accessibility. Scanning objects, edit and upload images to SharePoint. Handling and re-housing objects as necessary. Creating content to highlight objects within NTAV’s collection, such as featured collections on Vernon browser or pieces for the NTAV newsletter.

Knowledge and Skills required :
Interest in history, art, or cultural heritage, or a desire to learn more. Keen attention to detail. Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft 365 online programs, including SharePoint, Excel and Word. Familiarity with scanning equipment (desirable but not essential) Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom (desirable but not essential)

Training and skill development in: Cataloguing objects using Vernon CMS. Object handling, storage and preventative conservation. Digitising objects. File management and photo editing. Writing content for public and professional audiences.

You will be one of a team of experienced volunteers. The National Trust is a not for profit organisation that aims to conserve Australia’s history and heritage for present and future generations.

Volunteers can be provided with a letter of reference.

As part of the application process, we will ask you to agree to register as a National Trust Volunteer. Orientation and training are provided. Volunteers are required to have a current Working with Children’s Card (free for volunteers).
