Keen DIY handyperson to work in the cool sea breezes of Pyrmont Bay

You will need no specific skills, other than a willingness to help out. Tasks are assigned according to a volunteer’s physical capabilities, agility and experience. Basic skills such as operation of power tools, painting and general maintenance experience would be ideal. All ages, male or female welcome. A major advantage, but not a neccessity, would be a head for heights, to allow you to work aloft on masts and rigging. Specifically, you would be especially welcome if you were at the younger end of the retired spectrum, from 60 on. So, qualities of versatility, suppleness, nimbleness, litheness, along with no fear of heights and the strength to vertical climb, to hold on with legs entwined (in rigging, not others!) and perform intricate rope and cordage work with hefty sails and lines of nearly infinite length. After showing your colours you will be invited to undertake the training course and sail training overnights, and perhaps carrying out training for the GPH at TAFE (general purpose hand). For those who involve themselves in the maintenance that is essential to keeping the ship seaworthy, your preference for a crew position will be afforded favourable consideration..

Access to the ship in Pyrmont Bay adjacent to the National Maritime Museum, is by light rail, or 389 bus from CBD or regular harbour ferry. A pleasant option is a short walk across Pyrmont Bridge from QVB served by many train and bus routes. Wilson paid car parking nearby

Our promise: We can offer you splendid views from aloft, across to serried ranks of envious clericals sweating over hot keyboards, as a poor alternative to the chance of real excitement on the high seas thanks to your lofty endeavours!
