Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) – Volunteer Board Director and Treasurer

We are seeking a director to join our dynamic not-for-profit board.

We are seeking expressions of interest from candidates who:

  • have qualifications and experience in professional accounting and financial management; and
  • are a member of, or ally to, the LGBTIQA+ community. An ally is a person committed to promoting and protecting the rights and freedoms of LGBTQIA+ people.

You will be expected to attend monthly Board meetings (virtual), attend occasional in-person events in Melbourne (funded travel) and be responsible for the financial governance of the organisation.

About us Kaleidoscope Human Rights Foundation (‘Kaleidoscope’) is an Australian-based non-for-profit organisation that is committed to promoting and protecting the human rights of LGBTQIA+ people in the Asia Pacific region. Working directly with local activists in diverse nations, we seek to amplify their voices and enhance their capacity to combat prejudice, hostile authorities and discriminatory laws, helping them achieve the freedom and equality essential to living a life of dignity.

There are currently six directors of Kaleidoscope. Kaleidoscope has no employees. The directors govern and participate in the activities and functions of the organisation according to their skill sets on a voluntary basis.

About the opportunity Kaleidoscope is seeking a qualified candidate to join the Board as a director and treasurer. The Treasurer leads the financial oversight of the organisation and ensures compliance with regulatory and legal frameworks and adherence to an agreed financial plan.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. advising on the organisation's financial processes;
  2. providing financial oversight;
  3. ensuring the Board is informed about and understands the organisation's financial situation and performance;
  4. preparation of annual accounts;
  5. preparation of annual Financial Statements;
  6. preparation and lodgement of Annual Information Statement (AIS) to the ACNC;
  7. advising on any other compliance issues that may arise; and
  8. reviewing internal budget costings for program deliverables and tenders and monitoring on an ongoing basis.

The skills and experience required for this role are as follows:

  • Qualification or relevant experience in professional accounting and financial management.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector is desirable.
