Become a Nurture Carer to benefit women and children escaping domestic violence

Logo for The Equanimity Project (Australia) Limited

In Australia over 1 million women live alone, and the majority are over 50. The highest number of Centrelink registrations are women over 50 and can be at risk of financial insecurity.

The Equanimity Project (EQ) has developed an innovative training program where women living alone are trained as Nurture Carers to support another woman escaping an abusive relationship.

Training programs will be conducted in metro Sydney at the beginning of 2025, assisting women in becoming Nurture Carers as part of a unique pilot program before expanding nationally. You will also hear about the benefits from someone who has been doing the Nurture Care role for the past year.
The pilot program alone will contribute hundreds of room nights each year to the system, addressing the ongoing issues women face in gaining access to safe accommodation.

Nurture Carers will be supported financially by the organisation for additional costs.

This groundbreaking program not only protects and provides a safe environment for women escaping domestic abuse but also empowers women who may be at risk of fiscal and career stress or homelessness themselves to become essential to the solution. Our Nurture Carers are extraordinary women hidden within their communities, ready to play an exceptional role for another woman needing to remove herself from a volatile situation while finding stability and security.
