Our volunteer visitors are empathetic and curious; they find ways to connect and show genuine appreciation for the happiness of others. They play a vital role in the life of an older person through ongoing friendship.

Making a new friend can make all the difference to an older person experiencing loneliness and isolation. It can bring improved physical, mental and emotional health. To be able to converse, reminisce and share a laugh brings joy and feelings of self-worth.

This particular man loves a chat and is very capable however due to his limited vision, he requires companionship when he leaves the facility. He has no family nearby and is incredibly lonely. He would love a friend to take him out for a drive, or to a local coffee shop or park for a change of scenery. He feels he connects better with females however we are open to all genders.

Before commencement, visitors are given access to our excellent onboarding program which includes:

• An interview with your coordinator • Police check (free) • Two referee checks • Two quality online training modules

Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills are required, including a strong commitment to others through this voluntary role.
