Role Overview

The Operations Associate - Design Technologist drives the organisation's technical infrastructure and user experience. This includes updating and maintaining the website, ticketing processes, feedback mechanisms, and customer interactions.

The role will collaborate closely with our current Design Technologist.

About the team

The Operations Team’s goal is to provide an excellent volunteer experience for TEDxMelbourne members. They achieve this by recruiting skilled team players and ensuring smooth meetings and calendar management. Additionally, they maintain the organisation's technical infrastructure and constantly seek opportunities to enhance the overall experience. The Ops team is also responsible for recruiting and training volunteers for flagship events.

Commitment

This voluntary position entails a commitment of approximately 1-8 hours per week, which may increase during event periods.

About you

You are a technology-savvy individual with an eye for design, or someone curious about gaining experience in both fields. If you don’t meet all or some of the criteria, do still apply.

Experience you'll have

  • Building and updating websites with Webflow, our preferred CMS platform.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Understanding of UX Design principles.
  • Visual Design skills
  • Designing with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with low-code development, specifically using tools like Zapier or Make.

Experience that's a plus

  • Management of DNS updates.
  • Custom development with modern JavaScript frameworks, such as React or Next.js.
  • Experience with JAMStack.
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp, Google Admin Console, and Eventbrite.
  • Experience in automating processes through API integration.
  • Prior engagement with the TEDx community or similar idea-sharing platforms.
  • Experience working within a volunteer organisation.

In your first three months, you will…

  • Get up to speed with all of our systems and processes and make your first changes to our website.
  • Identify what improvements should be made for the future and begin works on them.

Long term you will…

  • Experience delivering a flagship event to the Melbourne community.
  • Gain valuable experience and contribute to projects of your choosing.
  • Influence the direction of the organisation.
