Aviation Museum – General Volunteers & Guides

FNQ Aviation Museum

With our continued growth, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities available for individuals of all skill levels and interests. Whether you're experienced or looking to learn something new, there's a place for you. Volunteers aged 15 and above can assist in various areas, including: • Tour guiding visitors and sales • Administration, research, and grants • Cataloguing, library & curation • Project management and design • Welding, building trades, upholstering, and carpentry • Public relations and fund raising • Social media, video, and photography • Merchandise and online sales Training is provided for all roles, so you can develop new skills while making a difference. You will support the efforts of our engineers restoring iconic aircraft like the Dakota C-47 and the North American Yale (flown by John Newell of Jack & Newell general store fame), ensuring they can be enjoyed by future generations. Free access is provided to MS Office, Canva & other paid online research platforms depending on your role. Even dedicating just a couple of hours a month on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays (more days soon) can make a significant impact. If you're considering a working holiday, Mareeba offers an ideal location with 300 sunny days per year, situated just west of Cairns. What's more, volunteering with FNQAM is recognised by Services Australia, allowing you to contribute to your weekly volunteer hours and get paid for being part of something meaningful. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. We have previously had newly arrived migrants and student volunteers learn a variety of skills. Positions are available both onsite at the FNQAM museum located at the Mareeba Airport and remotely in areas of admin, research, and fundraising team. For more information or to express your interest, visit our website, drop by FNQAM at the Tom Gilmore Aviation Precinct (Mareeba Airport West end) on Thursdays or Saturdays from 9 am to noon, phone at 0422 379 984. Join us in preserving aviation history and making a lasting impact on our community! ✈️🌟
