Friendship Volunteers for People Living with Dementia

Wesley Volunteer Visitors is a service that connects volunteers with older Australians who may be experiencing loneliness and isolation.

Do you have one hour a fortnight to spare to drop in and say hello. Maybe you will have a cuppa and a chat, but it can make all the difference to someone who doesn’t have that in their life.

We have several people living with early and mid-stages of dementia who have become isolated due to the impacts of this challenging illness. Each individual is assessed for their suitability to be visited by a volunteer.

We have people living in their own homes or within Residential Aged Care Homes and are looking for extra generous and patient volunteers to bring cheer to our friends who are living with dementia.

• Do you have experience relating to people with living with dementia?

• Do you understand the benefit that one on one time offers an older person?

• Could you give 1 hour a fortnight to make a difference to an older person in your community?

Our volunteers often say they get as much out of volunteering as they put in and they love sharing stories with the older person they visit. They love hearing stories of the past and getting to know a new friend.
