About volunteering with us

We provide pop-up hairdressing/barber services at some of WA’s leading community service organisations, such as, St Barts, 55 Central, Vinnies WA – Passages Engagement Hub and Uniting WA – Tranby Engagement Hub. These organisations provide homelessness services, such as drop-in service hubs or transitional housing to people experiencing homelessness in our community.

What does the role do?

Responsible for ensuring the success of the volunteer onboarding process

The Short Back & Sidewalks [SBSW] Onboarding Specialist works alongside the volunteers and other Management ensuring the successful onboarding of all WA volunteers. This is a remote volunteering role which requires the use of a laptop and good internet connection.

This position reports to the Volunteer Manager.

Responsibilities

Welcome video call

Setting up and hosting a 20 minute induction video call to make sure new volunteers are fully onboarded and familiar with SBSW's story, operations and values.

Shares processes for getting started in Better Impact (SBSW volunteer management system

Giving the incoming volunteer the required information to be registered for their first ever event with Short Back & Sidewalks.

Ensuring volunteer success

Ensuring all volunteers understand and adhere to the standards expected by SBSW and communicating this with the volunteer base. Making sure volunteers read and understand the SBSW Code Of Conduct.

Reactivate inactive volunteers

Reaching out to inactive volunteers for welfare and wellness checks

Hands off to SBSW WA Recruitment and Onboarding Coordinator

Checks in with SBSW WA Recruitment and Onboarding Coordinator to let them know we have new volunteers to engage with for their first service.

What do we need from you?

  • Have good communication and organisational skills 
  • Have an outgoing and friendly personality 
  • Be available on a to host a fortnightly onboarding session
  • Approximately 1-2 hours per week commitment

What support do you get?

The Short Back and Sidewalks team will deliver an induction so you can learn more about what we do and how we do it. You will be trained to deliver our induction, how to operate our user friendly volunteer management system, and be supported by our wonderful team of volunteers and staff members.
