The Role: BETTER is actively seeking dedicated volunteers to contribute to our cause.

As a volunteer with BETTER, you will be a valuable resource for teachers in East Timor, providing support and guidance in curriculum development and classroom management.

Your experience in writing lesson plans, interpreting curriculum documents, and implementing personalised/differentiated learning approaches will empower local educators to deliver high-quality education to their students. Your commitment to the balanced literacy approach will also contribute to fostering strong literacy skills among young learners in the region.

  1. Lesson Plan Development: a. Write comprehensive and effective lesson plans for lower primary school students, covering various subjects across the curriculum. b. Incorporate engaging activities, assessments, and resources that align with the learning objectives.
  2. Curriculum Interpretation: a. Interpret curriculum documents and standards to ensure lessons are relevant and meet the educational needs of students in East Timor. b. Collaborate with local teachers to tailor lessons to the specific needs and context of their classrooms.
  3. Balanced Literacy Approach: a. Advocate for and implement the balanced literacy approach, promoting strong language and literacy skills among lower primary students. b. Provide guidance on strategies to improve reading, writing, and communication skills.
  4. Behaviour Management and Positive Behavior Support: a. Share strategies and best practices for behavior management and positive behavior support in the classroom, fostering a conducive learning environment.
  5. Personalized/Differentiated Learning: a. Support teachers in implementing personalised/differentiated learning approaches to cater to the diverse learning needs of their students.
    In terms of time commitment, we understand that everyone's availability varies. However, to help us achieve our ambitious mission, we kindly request a commitment of approximately 3 hours per week.
