Cancer Support Volunteer
Prostate and Breast Cancer Foundation (PBCF) is a not-for-profit committed to improving quality of life for those living with cancer. Together with our funding of cancer research and awareness programs, our Support Services provide direct support to patients, at the time they need it most.
We work collaboratively with healthcare providers to identify patients in need of support and assign them one of our incredible Volunteers.
**A Support Volunteer can assist with:
• Companionship – like walks or catching up over coffee & cake • Support in finding new interest and activities. • Help finding cleaners, gardeners, home help or other local community services • Accompany a patient to medical or other appointments. • Joining or helping them to go shopping
The days & times you can help can be flexible, tailored to the needs of the patient you are supporting. We require a commitment of a minimum of six months from our volunteers so that we can provide consistency in the support we provide to our patients. **This role is not suitable for students. **
Research shows that even a little social support for a person with cancer leads to a better quality of life and better health outcomes. In this role, by doing a few things, you will have a very real and positive impact on the quality of another person’s life.
What’s in it for you?
Volunteering has been found to improve wellbeing, self-esteem, happiness and satisfaction with life. Giving back to your community and meeting or helping others creates a positive emotional state. You feel good, with less stress-causing emotions, like anger or loneliness.
So, if you believe you have the qualities of a Support volunteer and would like to join our team to give back and help us make a difference, we would love to hear from you today.
