Volunteer Research Participants - The Walking without Pain Study - Virtual - # 205170

NeuRA (Neuroscience Research Australia)

Research participants aged 50+ experiencing low back pain for 3 months or longer are needed for a remotely delivered study testing a digital program aimed at increasing physical activity levels and better pain management. This study is 6 months in duration. It involves testing a walking program combined with an online Pain Course. All participants will be asked to come into NeuRA in Randwick for a baseline assessment including an MRI. Half of the participants will be asked to follow the walking program and Pain Course over a 14-week period. The other half will be asked to continue with their usual activities. At the end of the study, this group will be enrolled in the Pain Course and provided the details for a walking program. Travel is only required once to attend the baseline assessment, the rest can be done at home. Participants are 50 years or older, have chronic low back (low back pain for 3 months or longer), live independently in the community, able to walk for 100 metres without stopping OR 300 metres with stopping (with or without a walking aid), able to communicate and understand English, have access to a computer or tablet with the internet, reside within the Sydney Metropolitan area, willing to participate in the study and able to provide informed consent.

Benefits: We intend that this research study will provide knowledge about the feasibility of our program. Participating may improve your physical activity levels and provide skills to better manage your pain however we cannot guarantee that you will receive direct benefits from participating in the study.
