Volunteer Peer Support Group Leaders

Neurological Council of WA
Logo for Neurological Council of WA

Peer support groups connect people within a safe space empowering them to take control of their health by listening to and comparing experiences; increasing health knowledge, understanding and literacy; finding new coping strategies, learning how to self-manage the condition or symptoms, and getting practical advice, support and encouragement to access services.

Peer support can also improve social and psychological wellbeing and overall quality of life as a result of reduced isolation, improved social skills, forming new friendships, and feelings of acceptance, comfort and hope in the stories of others.

Rolling out from 2024, the Neurological Council of WA is seeking to establish monthly peer-led support groups across Western Australia for people impacted by any neurological condition, commencing with Perth, Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton and Northam.

We are ideally seeking Volunteer Peer Support Group Leaders with lived experience having or caring for people with neurological conditions/symptoms, who can commit to organising, attending, setting up and facilitating a peer-led support group in line with an established framework. We will consider applicants with skills and experience in running support groups.

Volunteers will receive training, and ongoing supervision, support and debriefing, both individually and as a volunteer group.
