Volunteer Digital Mentor “Tech Mate” wanted for the Anglicare Retirement Villages Computer Club Castle Hill

The Anglicare Retirement Villages (ARV) Computer Club (CC) (ARVCC) Castle Hill was founded in 1998. Located in a beautiful historic building, the Computer Club now has nearly 400 annual subscribing members, and serves 1,400 residents living in the six Anglican Retirement Villages in Castle Hill, as well as the nearby Glenhaven Green Village.

As one of our trained volunteer digital mentor “Tech Mates” serving the Computer Club, you’ll work alongside its founder, with a group of Digital Literacy Foundation Tech Mates and the Computer Club’s technicians, to provide one-on-one support to residents with tech issues, either in the Computer Club’s well-appointed rooms or in members’ residences.

You don’t need to be an IT expert – if you can send an email, surf the internet, or change a password on a device, you can join the team!

You’ll need to commit to attending the Computer Club from 8.50am to 12 noon on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. You’ll help older people solve basic issues with their laptops, tablets, iPads, phones, printers, and desktops, with tasks ranging from helping them to download apps, to setting up emails, to introducing them to social media so they can connect with their friends and families, to mentoring them as they work through Be Connected learning modules.

You’ll need to be friendly, patient, punctual, reliable, and motivated to help older people be online confidently and safely.

This role would suit someone who is semi or newly retired (although we accept applications from anyone over the age of 18). All our volunteers must consent to a National Police Check and reference checks, and provide a Covid Vaccination Certificate.

You’ll also need a current First Aid Certificate. (If you don’t have one, we will provide accredited online training within the first 3 months of your joining us.)

We’ll provide you with orientation, training, and ongoing support.

Being a Tech Mate is a really uplifting and amazing experience, and the Computer Club is a very comfortable environment with the added benefit of free onsite parking… what’s stopping you? Join us now!
