Prosper (Project Australia) supports disadvantaged children and their families; at home, at school and in the community. Prosper delivers a variety of programs including; emergency relief, family violence prevention, parenting groups, playgroups, events and community development.

We are looking for a volunteer to assistant our Playgroup Coordinator with delivering our playgroup based in Ashfield, Sydney. This playgroup runs out of Ashfield Baptist Church Hall on Wednesdays (during school term time only) between the hours of 10.30am and 12.30pm. The venue is located very close to Ashfield train station and free parking is available on site if required.

This role would involve:

  • Attending playgroup on a weekly basis, starting early February 2025.
  • Welcoming and assisting the families when they come to the venue (this may involve helping them with lifting prams up a few stairs).
  • Assisting families when they leave Playgroup.
  • Helping pack up after every session.
  • Assisting children in their activities such as playing, arts and crafts and reading books.
  • Supporting all playgroup activities.
  • Chatting with parents.
  • Contributing ideas for Playgroup activities.
  • Following the directions of the Playgroup Coordinator.
  • Setting up playgroup.
  • Adhering to health and safety, and child protection regulations and policies.

Required attributes:

  • Patience
  • Ability to work with people from a variety of cultural and language backgrounds
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Friendly and welcoming manner
  • Clear communication skills
  • Helpful (but not essential) if you speak a community language.
  • Must have/complete a valid working with children check prior to starting in this role.
