About Us:

Over 100 years ago in November 1920, the Royal Aero Club of New South Wales was founded by aviators of the Australian Flying Corps upon their return from the Great War. In 1926, we welcomed our first three aircraft, the iconic De Havilland Moths marking the beginning of our journey. As the years went by our passion for aviation soared, leading us to outgrow our original home base at Mascot. In 1949, we relocated to Bankstown and established ourselves as one of the largest and most vibrant flying clubs in the Commonwealth. Today we operate from Camden Airport and embrace our rich aviation heritage as we shape the next generation of pilots, leaders, and aviators. We are uniquely positioned as the largest volunteer-run Part 141 Flight Training Organisation in the Southern Hemisphere.

About the Role:

We are looking for suitability qualified flight instructors to join our team and volunteer their time to fly on a casual basis with the Royal Aero Club. As a part-time flying school we generally operate on weekends and public holidays, as well as ad-hoc weekday camps. This role would be ideal for individuals who have a genuine passion for aviation and want to give back to the industry to help put wings on the dreams of young people. Applicants who may have previously held a Flight Instructor Rating are also encouraged to apply as we can reactivate your former qualifications through our in-house flight examiners.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold or be able to hold a NSW Working With Children Check.
  • Must at a minimum hold a Commercial Pilots Licence Aeroplane category rating issued under CASR Part 61.
  • Must at a minimum hold a Flight Instructor Rating Grade 3, Grade 2, or Grade 1 training endorsement (desirable to hold a current flight proficiency check but not a requirement).
  • Must at a minimum hold/be able to obtain a valid Class 2 aviation medical.
  • Must have reliable transport to attend Camden Airport (ie. Hold a driver licence and own a car).
  • Knowledge of CASR Part 61 flight crew licensing legislation and CASR Part 141 flight training legislation or wiliness to learn.
  • Ability to apply competency-based training principles and safety principals to pilot training and aeroplane operation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Desirable to hold either a Night VFR rating or Instrument rating training endorsement.
