Role summary The main role of a playgroup volunteer is to help with the setup, running and pack up of the CHCC playgroup. They will work alongside the playgroup leader and other playgroup volunteers to create a welcoming and engaging environment for families.

In conjunction with the playgroup leader, the volunteer may also be required to undertake specific tasks as identified below.

Key tasks These include but are not exclusive to: • Set up/pack up mats, soft play, ride in cars, toys, puzzles, tables, chairs, and craft activity. • Greet families, explain sign in procedures, give registration forms to new participants, inform parents/carers to place any dirty/chewed toys in bucket labelled “for cleaning”. • Engage children in play, encouraging manipulation of puzzles and toys and use of imaginative play • Start and stimulate conversations with and between parents/carers as needed. • Clean up and wipe down tables, chairs, toys and play equipment. • Facilitate and monitor craft activities, being responsible for potentially dangerous items such as scissors, stickers, glue, paint and playdough. • Watch for children leaving the room and follow immediately to ensure safety, alerting staff and parents straight away. • Monitor and assist (when necessary) children on soft play equipment, ride on cars and other toys. • Support CHCC Playgroup Leader and Chelsea Heights Community Centre Staff as required

In addition, there may be further opportunities to: • Plan, design and run a craft activity • Learn, assist with or facilitate a dance, sport, game or special interest activity • Read to one or more children • Assist with special events such as children’s week concert • Assist with mini incursions such as a visit from the CFA, library, guide dogs …

Person Specification • Helpful, engaging and responsible. • Demonstrated positive values of integrity, accountability, reliability and working as part of a team. • Able to follow instructions and complete requested tasks • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Show compassion and empathy as the situation requires
  • Be always polite and courteous, regardless of the situation
  • Have an ability to engage with people of all ages and abilities
  • Ensure any incidents, problems or questions are communicated with playgroup leader or centre manager. • Demonstrated motivation to commit to a volunteer placement for at least a whole school term (10weeks) attending most weeks (or by arrangement) on Wednesday from 9.00am-11.30am

Volunteer Training and Support: Volunteering at Chelsea Heights Community Centre provides opportunities for people to enhance existing skills and learn new skills, build self-esteem and confidence to enter the workforce, reduce isolation and to meet new people. Volunteers are recognized for their support and their contribution towards building a better local community.
