Garden Tool Library Volunteer

MarionLIFE is seeking volunteers to manage the Garden Tool Library at our community centre. Our garden tool library offers garden tools, including battery powered lawn mowers and whipper snippers for anyone in the community at a reduced cost. Through this program, community members can access the equipment they need to maintain their gardens, without the significant monetary investment of purchasing these outright. If you like the idea of supporting your community in a very practical way, we would like to hear from you!

Specific Tasks and Duties:

  • Manage bookings and hire agreements with community members.
  • Follow the tool hire process with community members, including the required paperwork, checking identification, writing receipts and demonstrating how the tools work.
  • Facilitate a positive, kind, and supportive experience for the hirers and fellow volunteers: experience working with basic garden tools is desirable but not compulsory!

  • Enthusiastic and empathetic approach to the work
  • Able to relate with sensitivity to a wide range of people
  • Some understanding of the impact of loneliness, isolation, and mental health struggles
  • Able to work alone and as part of a team
  • Able to maintain confidentiality according to MarionLIFE policies
  • Sound interpersonal skills
  • A keen sense of humour and ability to respect values that may differ from your own
  • Reliable, punctual and flexible

Other Requirements:

  • DHS Working with Children Check (Current). We can support you to gain this if you do not currently have one.
