Organisation description: Yarraville Community Centre is a vibrant community hub that provides education, training and support to more than 2000 people each week.
As a community-managed adult education provider in western metropolitan Melbourne, we offer a wide range of courses. But there’s much more.
We provide community services such as free public access to computers, occasional childcare and service referrals. We can develop curriculum and manage projects. Our facilities are available for support groups that benefit the local community, and our multipurpose rooms can be hired for meetings and functions.
Job description:
- Support teaching staff in class
- Working with and supporting students 1 on 1 in class
- Working with students in small groups
- Reading with students and to class
- Collecting and collating materials from office
- Set up and pack down classrooms
- Collect and distribute stationary supplies
- Photocopying
Desirable criteria:
- An interest in assisting students from non-English speaking backgrounds to learn English
- Willingness to help people settle in Australia
Training and support plan:
- Training around privacy and responsibilities prior to commencement
- Support from overseeing Coordinator, Manager or CEO
- Support with future endeavours
- Direction during volunteering hours
