Kennel Hand Volunteer - Bargo - #198547

Greyhound Rescue

The role involves attending rostered shifts and working as part of a team under the instruction of a Shift Leader. You will provide basic care to greyhounds and attend to their daily needs – this includes cleaning kennels and performing animal handling duties in accordance with our Standard Operating Procedures.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:

*Ability to work as part of a team

*Ability to follow instructions well

*Basic dog handling skills

*Good communication skills

*Basic reading skills for kennel card and whiteboard notifications

Role and Responsibilities:

*Adhere to all Greyhound Rescue policies and follow the Standard Operating Procedures

*Adhere to OH&S, upholding high safety standards

*Have a love of greyhounds and a commitment to their welfare

*Ensure kennels and dog runs are clean and tidy, including poo scooping

*Ensure kennels and runs have appropriate bedding, water, and toys

*Walk greyhounds and accompany them to our sensory gardens

*Feed the greyhounds as directed by Shift Leaders

*Dress greyhounds in coats when required

*Carry out basic cleaning tasks such as washing up, emptying bins, and doing laundry

*Bathe hounds as required

*Be familiar with and follow the RESPECT principles outlined in the Standard Operating

Procedures

*Notify the Shift Leader of any dog behaviour or observation that may not be considered normal

*Assist with basic maintenance tasks

Additional Requirements:

*This role requires a basic level of fitness

*You must be able to travel by car to Bargo; there is no public transport/taxi service to Greysland

*Complete an online onboarding – you will have a “buddy” accompany you on your induction shift

*Be available for a minimum of one four-hour shift per month. We run two shifts per day, every day of the year, rain, hail or shine.

*You must wear sturdy, enclosed shoes and clothing that allows for the physical nature of the work

*You will be required to bring your own drinking water and food – there are no food shops nearby
