VIC Emergency Services - Incident Management Team Volunteer

Australian Red Cross Emergency Services has been responding to emergencies and providing humanitarian assistance in Australia since 1914. We are committed to strengthening and extending our emergency services to all Australians to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

Red Cross Emergency Services Victoria supports people and communities before, during and after emergencies. Our work spreads far and wide, including supporting communities, groups and individuals to prepare for emergencies, as well as assisting with response and disaster recovery.

As part of our Emergency Services team, you will join a group of nearly 500 volunteers across Victoria ready to assist locally and across the state in times of emergency.

Volunteers are a part of a diverse and highly skilled team that make a significant contribution across Victoria. You will be called on during large-scale emergency responses (for example, bushfires, floods, acts of extreme violence, etc.), to deploy Red Cross people and resources safely and effectively across Victoria.

Positions are open for the following functions:

Planning

  • Sourcing emergency information and data, producing reports and planning emergency response activities.

Operations

  • Manage our volunteer workforce in activation, ensuring safety procedures are implemented, reporting is completed and that our teams are properly supported in the field.

Logistics

  • Managing logistical support for Red Cross emergency operations, including sourcing, maintaining, transporting, and reconciling resources, and financial record keeping.

Safety

  • Provision of support to ensure the health and safety of the emergency services workforce during activities undertaken for Red Cross

Wellbeing

  • Provision of support to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of the emergency services workforce during activities undertaken for Red Cross

Volunteers should be capable and experienced people who are reliable, possesses excellent technical and communication skills, and driven to make a significant difference in the lives of people and communities across Victoria.

They should also have:

  • A passion to volunteer for a humanitarian organisation

  • Ability to be part of a team of volunteers to achieve objectives

  • An interest in Emergency Management

  • A high level of computer literacy and confidence in navigating digital systems

  • Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills

  • Ability to interpret and communicate information effectively, particularly during high-pressure situations

  • Experience working in and supporting teams during highly stressful and time-sensitive situations

Highly desirable skills and experience:

  • Qualifications or experience relevant to the role

  • Experience establishing and improving systems and processes

  • Experience in similar roles in an Emergency Control Centre (Incident, Regional or State levels)

As part of your learning and development, you will be required to complete a mix of online and webinar-based training. You will also have many opportunities for additional training and leadership development as you join the world’s largest humanitarian network.
