Social Support for Seniors Volunteer - Earlwood - #196187

Canterbury Earlwood Caring Association Limited

Volunteers are required to provide social support to isolated seniors that visit our centre and have the opportunity to go on outings and share a meal and have fun. Social Support includes experiences like bingo, dancing, gentle exercise, conversation, laughter, being creative and more. Providing Social Support for our Seniors is about making a difference in the life of someone that is older.

Social Support provides real physical and mental health benefits to both the senior and for you, the volunteers as well . The role of the Social Support Volunteer will help Seniors off and on the bus, help serve tea and coffee, and provide the opportunities for an equal exchanges in conversation which include much laughter and support. You may be part of a group when visitors come to the centre and talk about about topics of interest- such and diabetes, reverse garbage, gardening and more.

Benefits:

Volunteering with Seniors provides the opportunity to make a difference in a person's life that may not have any one at home to speak and communicate with. You as volunteer will feel you are impacting and changing seniors and their lives, with increased opportunities to broaden their social network. You are giving seniors the interactions to increase their health and and well being outcomes , they will be both physically and emotionally stimulated.

The opportunities you provide have a two way benefit that include learning and knowledge and understanding of the needs of seniors. We need seniors and they also need us- its a win win situation. Volunteers tell us they just feel good and benefit in their own interactions with family and friends.
