MarionLIFE is seeking volunteers (neighbours) for the Neighbourhood Project to assist community members in one-off tasks around their homes.

Some ideas of the types of work this group could do include:

  • tidying in front or back yards to increase functionality
  • organising kitchen cupboards to make healthy cooking easier
  • cleaning carpets or living rooms to make comfortable spaces for hosting
  • washing windows to let more light in
  • helping with some veggie planting/patch preparing ........the ideas are endless and will be driven by the community.

If you like the idea of supporting your neighbours in a very practical way, and you do not mind getting a little dirty and working as part of a team, we would love to hear from you. We would love to hear from people with all kinds of diverse skills and experiences.

Specific Tasks and Duties:

  • Participate in one-off working bee activities alongside the volunteer team
  • Facilitate a positive, kind, and supportive experience for both your fellow teammates and the community member/s whom you are assisting
  • Help to respond to issues that may arise, under the leadership of the team leader/s

Person and Qualities:

  • Enthusiastic and empathetic approach to the work
  • Able to relate with sensitivity to a wide range of people
  • Some understanding of the impact of loneliness, isolation, and mental health struggles
  • Able to work alone and as part of a team
  • Able to maintain confidentiality according to MarionLIFE policies
  • Willingness to work toward the goals of MarionLIFE Community Services Inc.
  • Sound interpersonal skills
  • A keen sense of humour and ability to respect values that may differ from your own
  • Reliable, punctual and flexible
  • A driver's licence, reliable vehicle, and willingness to use these for the role (with petrol reimbursed) would be helpful, though not compulsory at all.

Requirements:

  • DHS Working with Children Check (Current). We can support you to gain this if you do not currently have one.
  • Fill out the MarionLIFE Volunteer Application Form.

Commitment:

  • We are taking expressions of Interest as we seek to form a core team. MarionLIFE has an approach and method for delivery in mind based on research and community consultation undertaken in the past few months. We are however also wanting the volunteer team to help shape how it may be delivered.

Time Required:

  • Flexible – jobs may take place on Saturdays or during the week. We will work with the availability and capabilities of our wonderful volunteers. The monthly commitment of the group is likely to be a couple of hours, spread across a few jobs.
