Address: Anam Cara Aged Care Community, 43 Lavarack Avenue, Bray Park 4500.

Our Pet Volunteer Program is seeking owners of furry, feathered, or other pets to visit our residents in our Anam Cara aged care community at Bray Park. Our residents enjoy interacting with animals, and all types of pets can be considered for this rewarding role!

Do you have a very special furry or feathered friend and would love to share the gift of its unique companionship with aged care residents? All types of pets can be considered for this ongoing fun and rewarding role.

You will be interacting with residents at our Anam Cara aged care community at Bray Park to share smiles and bring joy! By bringing in your calm, well-socialised pet for cuddles, you can ensure elderly people feel needed and comforted, and pets can remind the person of a former, well-loved pet from their past.

All types of pets can be considered for this ongoing fun and rewarding role.

Some of the goals Companion Volunteers with pets can assist with include:

  • Improving motor skills and joint movement
  • Increasing self-esteem
  • Improving assisted or independent movement
  • Increasing verbal communication and development of social skills
  • Improving willingness to join in activities
  • Motivation to exercise.

Our Anam Cara Aged Care Community features a homelike environment where residents can enjoy a sense of community, well-being and belonging. The role of the Companion Pet Volunteer is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm, caring and empathetic manner. Volunteering is a great way to make a difference in the lives of our seniors while making friends, having fun, and learning new skills.

Aged Care Volunteers are not involved in providing clinical or personal care to the people they visit.

Wesley Mission Queensland is a welcoming and rewarding place to volunteer, where you will meet many wonderful people and learn new skills that may assist you personally and professionally. There are lots of other benefits to volunteering with us as well, such as:

  • Supply and pay for any security checks required for the position
  • Great education opportunities
  • Exclusive shopping discounts
  • Access to online and face-to-face wellness advisors
  • Invitations to social events
  • Being part of a team that really is making a difference in the lives of lonely and isolated seniors living in your local community.
