The opportunity

This role suits someone over the age of 18 who has good IT skills, feels comfortable facilitating group activities and would like to brighten the day of elderly residents in aged care. You will need to be a good listener and communicator, be patient and able to commit to a minimum of 2 hrs per week, collect equipment and work with a small team to run the sessions at various facilities across the Hunter. Flexibility of times would be advantageous.

Applicants will need to have a full driver’s licence, be up to date with Covid Vaccinations and be willing to have a Flu Vaccination. Full VR training is provided

The impact

As a Virtual Reality Group Session Volunteer you will be part of the Community Visitors Scheme – a program that provides company and friendship to lonely and vulnerable older adults. You’ll bring fun and connection through virtual experiences and a world of new adventures for residents. Virtual Reality has the power to engage residents in a way that is vibrant and real, making them part of a moment once again, rather than just an observer of it. The joy it brings is wonderful!

Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.

Red Cross strives to create a safe and inclusive culture with wellbeing at its centre. We embrace diversity and welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people with different lived experiences, abilities, gender, ethnicity, age, and sexual orientation. We are a child safe organisation with zero tolerance of any harm to children. Our vision is to be trusted as the leading humanitarian organisation making a genuine difference in the lives of people and communities.

Thank you for considering volunteering at Red Cross. We also have great career opportunities.
